Why can I see better through my binoculars when I close one eye?
Answered By Brent Trumbauer, Editor
People with problems in the eyes have
problems like this. When one eye sees better
than the other it creates a blurred
stereoscopic image when both eyes are opened.
Using a binocular does not correct the eye
defect. It just magnifies what your eye sees.
You maybe are seeing better when your one eye
is closed behind binoculars because your
other eye has a defect.
Even for those with good vision, closing
one eye for a monoscope, telescope or other
scope with one eyepiece helps your eye to
focus and magnifies what you are seeing. So,
it is natural to close one eye.
