Most binos used for astronomy will be in the 10×50 range. You don't want to exceed 10 power if you want to handhold the bino. Even 10 power need steady hands to use. With stars, it's not about the power really, more about the objective lens size. You do need something large like a 50mm objective to collect enough light for stargazing. The downside, it's well…big. A pair of 50mm bino will not fit in your jacket pocket. So you have to look at that angle too, what do you consider too big? Do you want something compact enough to fit in your pocket, or will something a bit bigger do? Also what kind of money are you looking to spend? If more than $200, get a nice slim roof design and you'll end up with a more compact bino with bigger lens than you can get with a porro design. If under $200, stay with the porros.
